A gas package unit is one bundled heater and air conditioner in one fairly large unit outside. These are usually found on the rooftop. Which is why some they're sometimes called rooftop units, or RTUs. If your HVAC system doesn't have an indoor furnace or air handler, chances are, you have an rooftop package. If you get your heat from natural gas instead of just electricity, you have a gas package unit.
